Potting Your Artificial Plants

When searching for artificial plants and trees it can get very costly when looking for plants and trees that are pre potted in weighted bases. Due to the fact of the weight alone along with the larger box it has to be shipped in can raise the price of the plant or tree. One way to save money is to purchase a non potted artificial plant or tree. You may be thinking that it's to much work to pot your own plant and not worth the hassle but the that couldn't be further from the truth. below is a simple way to pot your own and save you big money.

1. Purchase an 6" or larger diameter planters pot from your local home improvement store. They run approximately $1 and if you can get the ones without holes it will save you a step.

2. If the pot has holes you'll need to cut a plastic bag to insert into it to keep the water from leaking out.

3. Place the plant stem or tree trunk in the center of the pot and stabilize it so it stays straight. You can use packing tape or duck tape over the top of the planters pot to stabilize the plant or trunk.

4. Fill the planters pot 2/3 full with Quickcrete post setting cement.

5. Pour enough water into the planters pot to soak the top layer of cement and leave about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of water on top.

That's it, now just let it set up and you have a weighted base that you can now use to set into your decorative container. This is by far the easiest and least messy method to use when potting non potted artificial plants and trees. So save some money and search for some non potted silk plants and trees and you can still make your home look beautiful for less.

Artificial Palm Trees - Options For Home Decor

Artificial trees are becoming a popular choice among people and there are many reasons why a homeowner might choose an artificial tree, especially, if they are living in a cold environment or places with lack of sunlight. These trees can be an exciting and fun decoration to have either for a party or for a holiday season. They add a splash of joy to your décor and sometimes can also be used as an alternative for Christmas trees or merely to add a tropical flavor and sunny ambiance to your party. Artificial palm trees can be a unique way to add character to any event or season and the best part about these trees is that they require a minimal maintenance and a simple dusting or a wipe with a damp cloth would keep them looking new and attractive for the years to come.

As mentioned earlier, there are various benefits that are related with artificial palm trees. When compared with other types of artificial plants, these trees are quite unique and different and add a tropical or sunny flair in the coldest Midwestern winters. Moreover, they are multi-purpose as whether you are planning to decorate a restaurant or a bar, they can be the most pleasing options. These plants are available in different varieties in terms of shape, size and color. Since not everyone have sufficient place to keep the tall artificial palm trees in their house, they are also available as cycas palm, bamboo stick, Chinese fountain and other different types that can be used as small decoration plants in the house.

Silk palm trees are available in different price range and therefore before choosing these plants for your house, it is recommended to check different stores for the prices of different available varieties. Online stores can be one of the best options to purchase these plants as these stores sell products at almost half the cost of the original.

How Silk Plants Got Their Name

Have you ever wondered why the artificial versions of real plants got the name "silk plants" when they aren't even made from silk? Many of the historical names of products have stuck over the years even though the material used to manufacture them has changed.

Silk plants originally were made from silk material and many factories were producing them at a slow rate. As the plants became more popular in the home decor market, the manufacturers wanted to find a less expensive and more practical way to make these types of plants without sacrificing quality and realism. They found that polyester worked well for the leaves and if they silk screened the details on the fabric they could make the leaves look more realistic than their silk counterparts. Most silk plants are made from this material rather than silk because of the lower cost and more detail that can be added to the look. The "silk plants" name just stuck and with new technology the artificial plants and flowers are looking more lifelike than ever before.

Many artificial trees and plants are still using real wooden trunks and stems to give them the most authentic look possible. Real coconut bark is used on many artificial palm trees to cover up any plastic parts that are used in the plant. On some of the silk banana trees real banana bark is used on some of the higher quality trees to cover the trunk to give it not only a realistic look but also a realistic feel also. Wire is infused in most stems to give you the ability to shape the trees and plants to your liking and also adds to the durability of the plant.

Next time you hear the term "silk plants", you can remember that at one time they were made from silk but now they are made mostly from a silk screened polyester.

Silk Plants Or Real? What You Should Consider.

What do you know about silk plants? Why are silk plants so popular nowadays? If you don’t know about these kind of plants, then read on and we will explain why they are so popular. Silk plants are an artificial imitation of the original plant. Since they look really similar to the original plant, you may not know they are fake until you touch them. The types and styles of silk plants vary widely, so does the price. many people decide to buy them for their home and office because of the cost to maintain real plants.

But before you do it, I suggest you to read this article to the end first. Then you'll have a complete idea to choose whether you want to use silk or real plants to decorate your home or office. The real plants which are placed in the interior of the house make entrances very attractive. They are able to beautify your home interior but unfortunately, maintaining the plant is certainly not easy. Among other things, the plant must be regularly watered, not to mention, the plant may have to be set in a certain area in order to get enough sunlight and so on. Well, all these hassles can be eliminated when you are using silk plants. Now, let's take a moment to learn about this type of decor. If you are more comfortable with original and real plants for your office and home, then there are some things that you need to consider such as:

1. Select Ornamental Plants that do not need much light. You can’t put it in a window if the plant needs more light from the sun. And keep in mind that you need to supply it with water everyday too if you decide to use real plants.

2. You must always clean the pot or vase on a regular basis to keep them looking nice. If the pot or vase it comes in is not attractive, then you can put the plants in another pot or vase.

Nowadays you may find that many florists are now selling a lot of silk plants. These typically have a similar texture as the original plants. For example Aglonema, begonias, orchids, maidenhair ferns, tulips, jasmine and so on. The silk plant arrangements are made similar to the real ones. In most cases, when the arrangements are put together by a professional, it is hard to tell the real ones from the fake ones unless you touch them. If you're interested in buying these types, then there are some factors that you need to consider too such as:

1. The color of the plant or flower arrangment will need to match the theme in your home or office. Don't hesitate to choose the silk plants that have bright colors such as reds, yellows or purples.

2. Choose ones that have plastic and material parts, but don't look plastic, for easy cleaning. Plants and Flowers which are crafted from handycraft paper, coconut coir, or any other natural materials do look interesting, but not all of these materials are easy to be cleaned. You may ask the florist about the ease of maintenance before you buy them. I think it is important to know how to take care of them before you purchase so there are no dissappointments down the road. Although it will be easier to take care silk plants rather than real plants, it may take different techniques to clean them depending on the material they are made of.

3. For convenience, you can also choose the type of silk plant that's set in a vase. Select the type of plants that can be easily changed out so you don't get bored with the look of the vase.

The beauty of artificials are not inferior if we compare them with real ones. The natural looking color of silk plants can make anyone who sees them wonder if they're real or not. Starting from the color to the highly detailed leaves and trunks look as authentic as the real version. They look even better if the silk plant is placed in a container that also has artistic value it will make the plant look more beautiful. If you like flowers and plants so much, I believe you will love to use silk plants to decorate your house. i take a lot of money to buy and maintain real plants to decorate your home and office. By purchasing silk plants it will eliminate a lot of expense. The effect you'll get using silk plants will be the same as using real ones and most people will walk right by them not even realizing they're fake.

Right now fans of silk plants are increasing day by day. Sometimes people are not only interested in decorating the inside of their house, but also the outside as well. Hotels, apartments, theme parks and home owners are also using artificial plants outside in their landscaping. The reason is it is more convenience and more practical to care for them especially with droughts plaguing the nation this year. Most interior designers like to use silk plants in their design. The main reason because it is easier to get the look that you desire than looking for the exact look in a real one and you can put it in any location because it doesn’t need any light or water. Many people say that silk plants are less classy than the real plants has not seen the higher end silk plants available on the market today.

Silk plants are flowers are becoming more and more appreciated by the public and are even becoming a trend. If your interior design is more of an uncluttered model, then it's appropriate to use silk plants such as grasses and tropical styles in your decor. The best usage of silk plants is actually to just follow the design of your home or office. Cleaning your silk plants is as simple as using one of the sprays out there once every few months. you simply spray it on and let them drip dry, it doesn't get any easier than that. So where are the silk plants used? Mostly in the interior of a houses, offices, modern shopping centers, cafes, restaurants, and many others. Usually the color of silk plant is not safe in direct sunlight outdoors as they will fade if they are not UV proofed. If you want to put the silk plants outside, it shopuld be preferably in a place which is not exposed to direct sunlight or you could treat them with a UV protectant before placing them outdoors.

How To Choose Outdoor Carpet

Indoor/outdoor carpeting is gaining in popularity. It can really add a touch of warmth to any outdoor area. Indoor/outdoor carpeting has taken on a whole new life over the past few years and most are now totally care free. There are hundreds of different styles and colors of indoor/outdoor rugs to choose from. You may choose to use the first type of indoor/outdoor carpeting, which was like Astroturf, or dress your outdoor area up using something as classy as a Persian rug.

As your choices of outdoor carpeting are many, your decisions are many too. As with most things, you get what you pay for. However, if you're using the carpeting under cover you won't need quite as much durability as you will one used outside. As with any carpet purchase there are some basic things you'll want to know, and some basic questions you'll want to ask. When making an outdoor rug purchase ask to see the durability ratings. Ask what maintenance will be required. Can this rug be easily cleaned with a rinse from the hose? You'll want to be able to clean up spills simply with water. Ask what type of weather conditions will the rug tolerate. If you will be using the rug under cover, such as in a covered porch it won't need the same sunlight resistance rating as a rug you'll use in an outdoor area where it will be in strong sunlight all day. Ask if the carpet is made from polypropylene or olefin. These carpets will resist wear and staining and are superior in their ability to resist mold and mildew. Outdoor rugs are now available in many styles and colors. You won't be at a loss to coordinate colors and themes. From the well known "turf" carpeting to outdoor braided rugs, you'll be able to find the perfect rug to compliment your outdoor setting. While generally used outdoors there are also some inside areas where durable indoor/outdoor carpeting can be a smart choice. Due to the fact they tolerate water and resist mold and mildew a lot of homeowners use indoor/outdoor carpeting in basement areas. Due to the fact that they area durable and clean easily some homeowners use indoor/outdoor carpeting in playrooms and areas where there will be a lot of "kid" traffic.

Decorating Your Outdoor Space: Tips and Ideas

You don't have to limit yourself to decorating the inside of your home. Your patio and yard are extensions of your home, and have unique opportunities to allow you to express yourself and your sense of style.
Of course, they present unique challenges as well. Much of your outside decor will be seasonal. The furniture may have to be stored indoors in winter in some climates, and plants may die back. Start out by thinking of what you would like to do in your patio and yard. Perhaps you enjoy barbequing, or maybe you have pool parties with friends.

Maybe you just want a quiet sanctuary. Start out by figuring out what will require the most space. If you love to have friends over, you may need a great deal of seating. Or, if you prefer to barbeque, maybe that dream grill will be the focal point. Perhaps you would like to install a fountain. In any case, whatever the focus will be you will likely want to place first, to ensure that other elements do not get in the way. There are great options these days in outdoor furniture. Many are pretty much weatherproof, so you may not need to be so concerned with bringing it indoors in bad weather. Style is important too, and if you haven't shopped for outdoor furnishings recently, the selection available, in terms of comfort and quality, may pleasantly surprise you.

Outdoor lighting has become easier to install and quite functional. It used to be that in order to light up your yard you would have to install wiring, a tedious process, or hire an electrician. Now, however, solar lighting has become quite functional and affordable. All you have to do is put the light where you want it, and let the sun charge it up for use. Not all solar powered outdoor lights will last all night; it depends on the brightness, time of year and so forth, but they are sufficient for many needs.

One of the most difficult parts of planning your outdoor decor is figuring out what to plant. A basic green lawn works with just about anything, of course, but it doesn't express your style very well... unless basic is your style. You will want to learn how to pick appropriate plants for your yard and garden. You can plant both in the ground and in containers. Most often you will grow flowers in decorative planters, or perhaps a decorative shrub. The containers themselves can be a part of your decor. As you plan the natural parts of your yard, consider whether you would like to have any seating out there. A stone bench makes a lovely and durable addition, for example. Statuary might also fit your style. Small water fountains are very popular right now, and very relaxing to listen to. As with lighting, solar powered fountains are available and quite practical. They can be as simple as an urn spilling water into a container below to a series of small waterfalls. The sound of water splashing is a great way to mask noise from the outside world and most people find it very relaxing. Whatever you do, don't skip decorating your yard as you decorate your home. It's a great place for entertaining or relaxing in good weather, or it can be a quiet sanctuary.
